Woven feelings in woolen yarns and textured colored yarns

Image
This small wall hanging comprises of color co-ordinations related to depression and stress. Rays of hope and excitement that one feels in lapses for various reasons  in each individual's life is denoted with colored textured yarns and the various shades of grey yarns depict the sadness that revolves around them. This is a succession of pieces that I worked on this is the in between phase towards final recovery.

Shibori a traditional Japanese tie and dye techniques is seen on various products ranging from fabric, to accessories such as bags, stoles etc. The art of dying in not only limited to fabric but is also widely used by weavers all around the world to create amazing design patterns on the yarns before they are woven in to a fabric. The options are limitless and also the color combinations, dye merging in to another color creating interesting overlapping of colors. Here is an example of a MX dyed wall hanging I made using pure cotton yarn in white and then dyed them in various shades of pink.

Print on Canvas

Connective art once tapped in to allows an artist to expand their imagination as well as their composition to a new level. The eye movement within a design can be created in so many ways, the eye leaps from one canvas to another creating  their own connection to view the work and then another impact created within the design by using bold colors and big designs. I used a similar ideology when creating a floral print design on canvas.

TREES,NATURE AND PRINT CONVERSION

Image
With the wave of technology and extensive usage of various media designs can be created out of anything and from anything. Once inspirations and trends were studied and mood boards were created after careful speculations cutting and pasting and so much more. Now one can create quick inspirational charts on various device and inspirations can just be achieved by a click of a camera. Yes my recent work of design was inspired by photography my hubby and I did of trees in different states of USA. These pictures were taken in different times of the day and seasons too. I was genuinely taken aback by the beauty of the trees and the landscapes it painted and here are a few digital designs I created and their mapping on clothes.

Surface Design on a screen printed fabric

Image
Surface Design has always existed but perhaps limited to embellishments or treatments to clothes. However with the progress in various textiles allover the world fabric,s surface is being enhanced day in and day out with some form of treatment whether in form of a particular finish or to uplift a certain design for upholstery, bed linen , apparel or decorative textile hangings. Above are some of my initial exploration where I screen printed a design of mine and then enhanced it by adding colorful lace cords here and there in the design to bring out depth and create interest in the design itself. On the second one I followed a similar path of screen printing but used "Mukaish" (silver wire work) to create an effect. In another sample of mine I decided to create the entire design out of cords and stitches to see an independent effect of surface treatment on canvas.

Mapping of O and G

The Oand G designs mapped on different forms of textiles, apparel and upholestry.

The 0 and G shapes in a design

One of the most interesting things to work around with any motif picked to worked with is the possibilities one can create with it. The design repeats, colors, treatment given and well pretty much anything can alter something we start with. One of my favorite part while creating  a design is trying to work out a possible repeat and to see what becomes of the design when at it. I don't think that I can possibly pick out my favorite repeat pattern, some designs look best in half drops, some straight repeats, mirrored seems to be extremely famous these days, sometimes when creating repeat patterns we end up getting some negative spaces which end up making the design much more interesting. The negative forms are generally in a shape of 0 and G, we call it an O  and G repeat. This is one of my design that I drew on paper and then converted in to a pdf. I am going to add the original design and then add the design repeats along with it....
