In our initial year studying Textile Design, our drawing teacher had introduced us to various pen, chalk, paint and ink material to help us understand and explore each medium and effects that each created. It made us appreciate each material and enabled us to understand each one's potential in a drawing. Above are paintings created by black ink and hues and shades are created by adding water in to the brush each time after picking up some ink. Since ink dries out extremely quickly one must use this medium wisely, in quick strokes making sure that there is an effortless flow to the painitng visible on the final piece.

Having been drawing for over a decade creating designs and drawings out of regular set out items or composing a still life in a practical juxtaposition I decided to nudge my comfort zone and try working on a composition which would take me by surprise so I decided to work with lamps! Lamps placed in random perspective to create a movement. After I was done composing and a final picture was in front of me I then transformed the composition in to a print design by mirroring the image. Here are the pictures telling the story visually.

Matkas is actually a large round shaped , made out of clay used usually to keep the water cold or at room temperature in the villages. Extremely popular in remote areas of Pakistan. These still life compositions are of all utensils made out of clay , hand made by the villagers themselves including the "KATORA" a large bowl of clay to pour water in and a "SURAHI" along necked round bottomed flask also made out of clay. I created three still life drawing series of clay work with various compositions out of compressed white charcoal on black cartridge sheet.

To relax, to freshen up, to have during a rainy or cold season to keep warm or just to have when one hangs out with friends. Whatever the reason maybe I bet very few know the possibilities and textures that one can attain with used tea leaves! Trust me its amazing with what one can achieve by just using a used tea bag on canson sheets. Here is one of my painting with the back ground created with tea stains and then a charcoal drawing of still life. This was one of my favorite compositions done during my time as a student.

Going through projects from the past has always been a surprise element for me. Mainly because it brings back memories off how one created a certain piece , what led to the inspiration of the final design, painting etc and how many ideas were rejected before a final conclusion. These explosions of memories and the realization of what we used to do and how we have left those techniques of way of thinking behind and become more commercial now then back in the university. These are some of my paintings using various techniques and mediums while creating paintings which were our inspiration of shopping malls within the vicinity of the city.
